About the role

As a Senior Backend Engineer at OTE, you will be part of teams building and evolving large-scale, mission-critical backend platforms that support a very large customer base and complex business processes.

You will operate in an environment with rapidly changing business and technological challenges, where engineering quality, scalability, and reliability are critical. The systems you work on are not only used locally, but are also shared and evolved across the DT Group, contributing to solutions consumed by multiple NatCos.

We are looking for engineers who enjoy ownership, technical depth, and collaboration, and who want to shape platforms used at national scale and evolved at a global DT Group level, following shared engineering principles and standards across NatCos.

 

Key responsibilities

·        Take ownership of the design, implementation, and evolution of backend services across the full application lifecycle

·        Contribute actively to architecture and technical decision-making in a distributed, microservices-based environment

·        Design and build highly scalable, resilient Java services supporting high traffic and data volumes

·        Define, implement, and evolve RESTful APIs and integration contracts used across multiple systems

·        Work with event-driven and asynchronous architectures

·        Build reusable components and shared libraries to support long-term platform evolution

·        Participate in technical discussions, design reviews, and code reviews

·        Collaborate closely with product, frontend, DevOps, and business teams

·        Identify performance, scalability, and reliability challenges and lead their resolution

·        Contribute to engineering standards, best practices, and guidelines

·        Support and mentor other engineers through knowledge sharing and technical feedback

 

Required Skills

·        Strong experience building backend systems in Java

·        Proven experience with microservices in production

·        Solid understanding of distributed systems and architectural trade-offs

·        Experience with containerized and cloud-native environments

·        Ability to balance business needs with technical excellence

·        Comfortable taking ownership and contributing to technical direction

·        Strong communication and collaboration skills

 

Preferred Skills

·        Experience with Quarkus/Springboot Native

·        Experience with NoSQL databases

·        Exposure to telecom-grade or large-scale systems

·        Interest in platform or domain-driven design
